Lakesters History

Picture
Some history, condensed from Gerry Schreck.

"I checked with a few of the original members and to the best of our fuzzy memories the car club was started in Sept 1963.
First meeting was at Herald Niharts trailer/cabin out on Austin Point. Officers were elected and all I can remember I got the job of Secretary  &
Treasurer. I think dues was established a $3.00 per meeting with date set for the third Thursday of the month.
Those in attendants that night were Gerry Schreck, Larry Partington, Herald Nihart, Joel Brinkman, Lyle Liichtblau, Elmer Myers, Lee Partington,
Roger Rutz, Rick Sprick, Bob Heron , Keith Willers  and maybe a few others no one can recall now.

We set the club up as a service club. Helping people down on the side of the road.
We had small business type cards we handed out to them after we got them up and running with Lakesters and the Logo printed on it.

The deal was we never took any money for helping them. I can remember changing tires, running into town to get flats fixed, get gas or just
get the people into town. I know a lot of the other fellows did too.

I do remember a few trips up to the old drag strip in New Brighton we made as a group.

The  Plagues came from J.C. Whitney, the design came from someone in the club , maybe  Keith Willers?
The plagues were $6.95 ea w/ shipping plus a 5:00 club fee.
Patches came from California and I think they ran $7:00 ea

Meetings generally turned out to be held in front of the Old Diary Bar (car show every meeting night) Chicks by the score!"
